Our Approach

We believe young people are capable of far more than they are tasked with today. By challenging learners to independently set and attain personal learning goals, with a long-term view, they gain ownership in their work and are able to realize their true potential.

LEARNER DRIVEN

In our multi-age Studios, learners mentor, inspire, and challenge each other—fostering leadership, independence, and a sense of belonging. The open environment allows learners to naturally learn from others with different interests, skills, and ability levels.

Mixed Ages

We replace grades and tests with real-world skill application and mastery based badges. Learners advance at their own pace, mastering subjects before moving forward—ensuring true understanding, confidence, and long-term success.

Self-Paced Mastery

Every day learners are on a quest to discover their calling. They tackle real-world challenges, launch businesses, pursue passions, and take ownership of their education, developing the grit and purpose needed to make a lasting impact.

Measuring Success

It all sounds great, but how do we know if Learners are actually learning?

Young heroes celebrate the mastery of tools, skills, and character by earning badges and taking part in public exhibitions.

Online Badge Tracking

Learners use badges to track academic progress in Core Skills like reading writing, math, and spelling and character development in Servant Leader Badges.

Performance Portfolio

Portfolios of work capture rough drafts, photos, video and real world deliverables as learners pursue increasing standards of excellence.

Exhibitions

Young heroes deliver public exhibitions of their work at the end of each four to six week session. Whether opening a real business, treating patients as a doctor, or transforming their studio into Antient Athens, learners present what they’ve learned and how it applies in the real world.

  • Math: Khan Academy

    Levels 2 - 5 have the option to use Khan Academy, focusing on arithmetic skills needed to know at all levels. "One way to help empower and drive students as they’re learning is to encourage them to monitor their own progress. This allows learners to track their own improvement, figure out what they need extra help on, and set their own goals."

  • Reading: Lexia Learning Systems

    Lexia has singularly focused on science of reading-based literacy solutions. Through our focus, we’ve developed a breadth and depth of expertise unlike any in our field. It has enabled us to form partnerships with world-renowned authors, set new standards for content quality, develop advanced learning technologies, and lead the charge for innovative approaches to literacy’s biggest issues. Our focus helps us not only keep pace with the changing market, it helps us drive change.

  • Math: Beast Academy

    Designed by the global leader in advanced math education, Beast Academy is an engaging, rigorous math curriculum for elementary students.

    Through the interactive online platform and captivating comic-based storylines, students tackle tough challenges that move them to math mastery.

  • Spelling: Vocab A-Z

    From differentiated, game-based practice to ready-made word lists and lessons across various content areas, Vocabulary A-Z truly offers all of the tools students and teachers need to improve vocabulary skills while strengthening reading comprehension.

  • Math Practice: Everybody Math

    Everybody Math is a research-based, math fact mastery program for multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. The online program offers an interactive learner module with ongoing assessment, learning, review, and visual tracking of student progress. In addition, a powerful Teacher Module allows guides to monitor learner’s progress.

  • Grammar: Evan Moore Grammer

    Learners develop the important grammar and punctuation skills they need to be successful writers. Grammar & Punctuation, provide direct instruction and practice on 25 grade rules for every level.

  • Writing: No Red Ink

    NoRedInk simplifies the process of building strong writers and critical thinkers in Grades 3–12. The platform equips learners to build necessary high level grammar and writing skills. Used for Adventure Studio and Launchpad only.

  • Typing: Typing Club

    A safe place for Learners to learn how to type accurately, swiftly, efficiently and correctly. 

  • Foreign Language: Duolingo

    We have teamed up with Duolingo to help your Learner learn different languages from all over the world! 10 minutes a day is all they need! This is for level 2 and above.
